History

In 1963, R. Scott Grybek founded Interscience Research and Engineering to provide consulting services to a variety of clients in materials failure, chemical specialties formulation and testing, institutional and food plant sanitation, and insurance loss investigation. In 1972, the company was reorganized as "Interscience Inc." with an emphasis on loss investigation and failure analysis. In 1990, Interscience Inc. became an employee-owned company.
Interscience Inc. personnel are experienced in field investigations and litigation, where our abilities are well known. We have been involved in thousands of projects throughout the United States and many foreign countries.
Officers and associates of Interscience Inc. are members of organizations related to the field of forensic science and engineering. Long-term professional society memberships have helped key personnel remain current with the rapid changes taking place in science and technology.

Gene Bullington, BS, CFC, CFEI
Chairman of the Board and President
Gene Bullington has Navy experience as a fire control technician. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Gene lectured at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg Junior College, Hillsborough Community College, Pinellas Police Academy, and numerous association seminars and conferences on fire origin and cause, accident reconstruction, and electrical failure analysis. Moreover, he is the past President of PARCO Arson Co-Op of Florida and the Florida Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Gene is court-qualified in State and Federal courts in fire origin and cause and electrical failure analysis and has performed extensive research into appliance failures. He is a certified fire and explosion investigator, as well as a certified fire and explosion instructor.
Robert C. Williams, BS, CFEI, CFE
Vice President and Senior Technical Analyst
Robert C. Williams graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi - National Engineering Honor Society, and AIChE. Robert was previously an electronics communications and cryptographic specialist with the US Air Force and was a technical specialist with Jackson Products, a manufacturer of commercial dishwashing machines. He is a certified fire and explosion investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators and has diplomat status with the American College of Forensic Examiners. Mr. Williams has over 20 years of experience in the investigation of plumbing failures, plastic failure analysis, and fire and explosion investigations. He has provided expert deposition and trial testimony regarding plumbing failures, water intrusions, and fire origin and cause investigations.

Samuel DuPont, MEE, PhD
Forensic Analyst
Samuel DuPont received a Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering and a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 2008 and 2012, respectively, with a research focus in material science and microbiology. He has experience with numerous forms of microscopy and material characterization techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and confocal microscopy, with an emphasis on the 3D reconstruction of microscale surfaces. Samuel is also passionate about education in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) space. He has worked since his time at the university, developing a unique and engaging curriculum for students from age 5 to 50.
Patrick G. Drottar, BS, CFEI, CVFI, CFII
Chairman of the Board and President
[H4] Forensic Analyst/Evidence TechnicianPatrick joined Interscience Inc. in July 2017. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology with a concentration in Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigation. He was previously a service technician in fire protection, specializing in the failure analysis of fire alarms and water-based suppression systems. Mr. Drottar is a certified fire and explosion investigator as well as a certified vehicle fire investigator and certified fire investigation instructor through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). He has also given lectures on fire and vehicle investigations for NAFI at their many training programs around the country.
Melissa McNabb
Director of Client Services/Office Manager
Melissa has been with Interscience Inc. since 2000. She began as an evidence custodian and soon began handling some of the marketing and advertising as well. Melissa now serves as Interscience Inc.’s Director of Client Services.
